Hello, I'm Polo!

We have some news! Our car-sharing family is growing with extra wheels: the newest member is the VW Polo! At the request of Greenwheels drivers, we have added this popular car to our fleet. The Polo, the 'big sis' of the Netherlands' most well-known shared car, the Up!, will be available in various cities in the Netherlands from next week, including Gouda, Schiedam, and The Hague.

For some time now, we have been working on the 'ideal fleet mix' to ensure that car sharing is a much smarter alternative to car ownership. As a private car owner, you have one, or maybe two cars at your disposal. But as a car sharer with Greenwheels, you have access to nearly three thousand cars: large and small, electric and petrol, from compact cars to vans. This ideal fleet mix means that every car sharer in the Netherlands has as much choice as possible.

Smartest choice

"Greenwheels drivers told us that they needed a car between the compact Up! and the spacious Variant station wagon," says Michiel Cuppen, CEO of Greenwheels. "At the same time, we are aware of the space a car takes up on the road. The Polo is a medium car, has a larger boot, and is ideal for taller drivers, yet still has compact dimensions. This way, we ensure that there is a suitable shared car for everyone and every trip."

New medium category

The VW Polo is one of the best-selling cars in the Netherlands. The car is known for its reliability, comfort, and popularity as a lease car. With features such as a spacious boot, comfortable seats, and modern technologies, the Polo is perfect for holidays and business trips. The Polo is the first shared car in the medium category, a size between the compact petrol and electric cars like the Seat CITIGOe and larger vehicles like the VW Golf Variant.

Impact of car sharing

By sharing cars instead of owning them, car sharers contribute to livable neighbourhoods. Fewer private cars mean less parking pressure and more space on the streets for greenery or playgrounds. Moreover, car sharing results in lower CO2 emissions and more efficient use of available cars. Michiel Cuppen: "A reliable, recognizable car lowers the threshold to discover the benefits of car sharing." This way, we hope to make the transition from a private car to a shared car easier, resulting in more livable neighbourhoods. So: one more to adore! Welcome to the family, VW Polo!
